Greencastle Midget Football appears in Christmas parade

The Greencastle Midget Football Association was one of more than 100 entries in the Greencastle Christmas parade on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025.

A new restaurant called Pita & Pearls opened in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, in November 2025.The menu features a fusion of Mediterranean cuisine and Asian boba tea beverages.Customers can build their own bowls or wraps with a variety of proteins, toppings, and sauces. The owners previously operated a highly-rated boba shop in Hagerstown, Maryland.

The tastes of two different cultures – one Mediterranean and one Asian – arrived in Greencastle with the opening of Pita & Pearls on Nov. 15, 2025.

The Mediterranean bowl and boba cafe is tucked in the corner of the Greencastle Market Place strip mall that’s anchored by MARTIN’S Food Store and Goodwill on North Antrim Way.

The space was formerly home to Sora Sushi, which closed in 2023, and local diners have been awaiting the opening since “Coming Soon” signs for Pita & Pearls went up early in 2025.

“Pita” in the restaurant’s name reflects the cuisine of the Mediterranean, including owners Moez and Radhia Haj-Mabrouk’s native Tunisia. Their college-age children, a son and two daughters, also help with the business.

The “Pearls” are in the boba tea – also called bubble tea – rooted in Taiwan. Boba tea is based on tapioca, or the sweet and chewy pearls (boba) made from the tapioca plant.

And the restaurant’s bakery items cover “a little bit of everything,” Moez Haj-Mabrouk said.

“The baklava sells very quick,” he said and the selection also includes puddings, tiramisu, cheesecake and pie.

The menu says Pita and Pearls is “where the richness of Mediterranean flavors meet the joy of boba. Our bowls are crafted with fresh ingredients, warm spices and vibrant traditions paired with drinks that nourish and refresh, Colorful and always made with care, every bite and sip is a little taste of comfort and delight.”

“There aren’t many options in Greencastle and it seemed like it would be a good fit,” Haj-Mabrouk said.

Here’s what’s available for wraps and bowls

“The idea was to do something similar to Chipotle, but in a different culture,” said Moez Haj-Mabrouk.

He cited the freshness and simplicity of the healthful and tasty food flavored with the spices of the Mediterranean at Pita & Peals.

The build-your-own menu is composed of bases, proteins, toppings and sauces.

Customers can choose to have their meal either in a bowl or as a wrap. Base choices for bowls are basmati rice, greens or greens and rice. The wrap is markouk, a Turkish bread larger than a pita.

Protein choices are shawarma chicken, lamb meatballs and falafels.

Toppings for the bowls and wraps are feta cheese, romaine lettuce, olives, pickled onions, tomatoes, chickpeas, lentils, roasted corn, cucumbers, crispy pita, hummus, ezme and tabouleh.

Sauces to round out the meal include garlic, tzatziki, tahini, harissa and spicy harissa.

Sides on the menu are falafel, fries, rice, pita bread, pita chips, baba ghanoush and pita, hummus and pita and chicken Mediterranean loaded fries.

A kids-size bowl and chicken tenders are available for children.

Boba drinks and more

The family previously operated Royal Tea Boba and Sweets in downtown Hagerstown, closing just days before opening Pita & Pearls. It earned online rankings for best boba tea in both Hagerstown and Western Maryland and in the top 10 in all of Maryland.

The top 12 favorites from Royal Tea Boba and Sweets make up the core beverage menu at Pita & Pearls, starting with Classic Classic, with black milk tea and double tapioca pearls, and ending with Pina Colada Bubble Tea, milk tea with boba and mango jelly.

In between, the list includes Brown Sugar Tea, Purple Dream, Mango Slush, Ice Coffee Latte, Hey, Honey!, Wild Side, Just Peachy!, Thai Tea, Matcha Brown Sugar Milk Tea and Oreo Cookie and Cream with Tapioca Pearls.

Sweetness can be adjusted, and drinks can be customized with different varieties of teas, flavors and toppings.

Milk tea (almond and oat milk are options), fruit tea or lemonade and smoothies or slushies also are available in multiple flavors. Iced coffees, hot teas and frozen hot chocolate or hot chocolate complete the list.

In a nod to the bubbles in the tea, keychain-size, small, medium and large stuffed plushy bobas are displayed and sold.

The move to Greencastle

The response in Greencastle has been very encouraging with good feedback, according to Haj-Mabrouk, who said, “People in Greencastle are excited to see something other than pizza and burgers.”

He’s already thinking about adding couscous, grilled salad, beef, gyros, kibbe and grape leaves to the menu.

“We will expand as we go,” Haj-Mabrouk said. “We’re excited to be in Greencastle. We’re part of the community.”

There are 12 tables in the restaurant, takeout is popular and delivery is available.

Pita and Pearls at 510 N. Antrim Way is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays. The phone number is 717-360-3418 and the website is pitanpearls.com
