I love these cookies. If you use quality butter and quality eggs they are absolutely divine.

I have a cookie press handed down to me by my grandmother that she received as a wedding gift in the 1943. I pull it out once a year to make Christmas spritz cookies.

Does this cookbook have a rolled cookie recipe with oats? I’ve been looking for this recipe I used to make with my Grandmother for years.

What year is your Betty Crocker book? I enjoy making tons of spritzs from different years and cookbooks.

What is the “dipping method” for measuring flour?

That’s the recipe for Spritz that I use as well. All my childhood cookie recipes came from that book.

OP, Did these spritz turn out crisp and delish? I cry inside when I bite into gummy or floury ones at Christmas parties.

I use that every year. Best spritz recipe.

I read a spritz variation in one of my old cookie books and I used it with my tried-and-true recipe. Instead of the almond flavoring I normally use (I made those as well-green trees)
add 1tsp lemon zest, 1 tsp lemon juice and 1/2 tsp lemon extract. Add little bit of yellow food coloring and use a flower shape. Cut maraschino cherries in eighths and press into the middle of each flower. Dried fruit feels very traditional for Christmas and they added another pop of color. They were so tasty! I highly recommend it if you love spritz! I used the more natural cherries from Whole Foods so they were more muted but still soo pretty.

I just got a cookie press last year, and never used it. I will try this as my first recipe. Looks great !

I made some spritz cookies this year and the only problem I had with them is the dough getting too warm and then too stiff after I put it in the refrigerator to chill. I guess I have to work on finding a happy medium.

Spritz cookies have become one of our enduring Xmas traditions. SO got to make them with us finally, and it was so funny teaching him to use the press and convincing him not to put down parchment.

    “But…they’re cookies.”
“Babe, they’re butter with filler. They ain’t gonna stick.”
