A new Greek restaurant has opened in one of Hull’s busiest food and drink quarters. Agora By The Greek welcomed its first diners in recent weeks following a soft opening period, and is now fully open.
Located at 78a Princes Avenue, Agora aims to bring Mediterranean flavours and a touch of elegance to the HU5 area in the run-up to Christmas. While under the same ownership of The Greek previously in the same Princes Avenue spot, Agora is a new restaurant with an entirely different menu.
It offers a variety of meze, such as dips, flatbreads, octopus, lamb skewers, and chicken skewers. Describing itself as “a Greek restaurant with a Hull accent”, Agora is focused on classic Greek cooking with a laid-back, ingredient-led approach.
The menu is designed for sharing and focuses on small plates inspired by Greek flavours, alongside larger charcoal-grilled dishes. The team behind Agora say the restaurant has been built around quality, seasonal ingredients and a commitment to supporting local suppliers, alongside a wider focus on community.

“With Agora, we wanted to create somewhere that feels special but still relaxed,” said Babis Stoumpos, area manager for The Greek restaurants. “It’s a place for good food, good wine and taking the time to enjoy being together, which feels especially fitting at this time of year.”
As part of its opening celebrations, Agora has launched a Christmas giveaway, offering one winner a trip for two to Santorini, a stunning Greek island in the Aegean Sea. The restaurant has launched with a stylish interior, including a real olive tree as the central feature.

Cocktails and alcohol-free options are created using homemade cordials prepared in-house by bar manager Janis, who has spent years working behind the bar. Outside of service hours, the team also plans to open the space to local creatives and like-minded groups, hosting workshops, classes and community events.
Agora By The Greek is located at 78a Princes Avenue and is open Wednesday to Sunday. More information can be found via its social media pages at @agorahu5.
