After serving up New York-style pizza slices and Italian favorites for more than three decades, Sbarro at Merritt Square Mall will be closing its doors on Dec. 31.
The location first opened in 1989, becoming a staple in the mall’s food court and a go-to spot for shoppers craving oversized pizza slices, stromboli and pasta.
The Merritt Island Sbarro earned a loyal following, offering New York-style pizza in the heart of Brevard. With strong reviews across platforms — averaging 4.6 stars on Google — the closure marks the end of an era for local pizza lovers.
More about Sbarro
Sbarro was founded in 1956 by Gennaro and Carmela Sbarro as an Italian deli in Brooklyn.
By the 1970s, the brand pioneered the mall food court model, serving oversized New York–style pizza slices and quick Italian meals in shopping centers around the country.
As mall traffic has declined, the company has shifted its focus to airports, convenience stores and international markets, adapting its fast-casual concept.
