Kmart has an incredibly popular product that only costs $6.50 that would be perfect for any kitchen. Some shoppers have complained that it has been sold out at their local Kmart and they’ve been trying to get their hands on it for months.

The 450ml Oil Spray and Pour Bottle allows you to dispense the cooking material in two ways, but it comes in a clear glass bottle. Queensland-based nutritionist Leanne Ward told Yahoo Lifestyle that you need to be careful where you store your olive oil in this type of container.

“Putting it into a dark, cool pantry is important,” she said.

“When olive oil is exposed to a high heat or UV light if it’s on the bench, especially in the middle of summer, that accelerates some of that breakdown of the antioxidants in the oil.”

This is why a lot of olive oil comes in dark green bottles as that can shield the liquid inside from the sun’s light.

However, because Kmart’s bottle is clear, the oil could break down faster if it’s left out in the open in your kitchen.

“The best standard is extra virgin olive oil, which has the richest source of antioxidants and polyphenols and healthy fats,” Ward told Yahoo Lifestyle.

“And the richer the source of antioxidants, the more sensitive it is to things like light, particularly UV light.”

Olive oil has been fairly expensive in recent months, and can set shoppers back tens of dollars, depending on the type and size they purchase.

So you definitely wouldn’t want to cause the liquid to deteriorate faster than necessary.

Leanne said olive oil can eventually go off, but unlike milk, it’s a very gradual process that can take a while before it’s properly noticed.

“The taste becomes flat and stale and then as time goes on, it becomes a little bit more rancid and the colour goes off,” she said.

“It goes from that beautiful blend of yellow and green, like when you go to a beautiful Greek restaurant and they give you the good stuff.

“It almost has a green tinge to it, which means it has a really high antioxidant content.

“But over time, it becomes a little bit more yellowish.”

The nutritionist recommended to only fill the Kmart bottle up a quarter of the way and leave the majority of the olive oil in the dark container that it came in.

Aussies rave over $6.50 Kmart item for the kitchen

Kmart shoppers who have managed to purchase the bottle have been raving about its versatility.

One section allows you to pour the olive like you normally would out of the original bottle.

But if you press on the lever, you can spray the oil on your food or appliances.

“My sister in law bought me one and I love it I do keep it in the cupboard we’re it’s dark,” wrote one person.

“I’m a chef and use this in my commercial kitchen,” added another.

“It’s brilliant I love it. I use pure olive oil and I keep mine out on the kitchen bench with no problems,” said a third.
