Sorry, I accidentally deleted my first comment.

I used to make boules like this, but my butter and jam just melted to the plate. I started making my boules with less air pockets and a slightly denser crumb, so now I have the perfect vessel for butter and jams. Hahahahahah!

This one looks burned on the outside and those holes are terrible for melting cheese, cream cheese, tomatoe sauce, etc… they just fall trough
But i understand what u mean about those posts 😆

  4. BananaHomunculus

Looks like a cross section of shelobs lair.

“Hey guys, literally didn’t know what an oven or bread was until today, how’s my first loaf teehee?”

And their loaf looks like perfection incarnate

  6. JasonZep

This is the opposite of what I’m going for.

  7. spreaddamayo

True. My first loaf looked so bad compared to other people’s first.

Personally I prefer a tighter crumb when I make my bread so I can use it for grilled cheese.

  9. It’s either this or…

“My starter is 15 minutes old and I baked my first loaf. Why does it look like a frisbee?”

I take the successes as evidence we are giving good advice and people are waiting until their starters are fully mature and learning a lot while they wait.

I absolutely hate bread like this and I don’t understand why people act like it’s good.

You can’t do anything with that bread.

Great for Instagram but, not so great for actual eating

  12. Is this what Brian Lagerstrom once referred to as “porno crumb”?

  13. Big_Researcher_3027

I know right? I had a crumb develop like that once. Then googled 8485958372 videos so I could learn ever to do it again. Pretty to look at but pretty much useless.

Hahaha, I have the same problem, seeing that everyone uses “sourdough.” Which might be true, but I get the impression that some posts use those words to try to sound more professional, or maybe they think that commercial yeast is the same as sourdough.

Maybe I’m just talking nonsense since Reddit translates most of my posts for me, hahaha, but I have the same problem.

Anyone else NOT a fan on this kind of crumb?

  16. ts159377

I’m in the minority but I love this kind of crumb

  17. big_river_pirate

Id be pissed if I got slice that tbh. Nowhere to put my butter it just falls through

I agree there are lots of suspicious “first loaf” posts here. This is unbelievable crumb though.

This is great bread (Adelina knows what she is doing). I know that people complaining about holes, and toppings dripping through, but that’s a little silly. The flavour of this bread will carry the experience. Perfectly fermented loaves taste incredible, and it often seems to me that a good portion of people on here have never experienced one.
