
So first I would like to deeply apologize for not being a master canner and not knowing everything about canning. I am an idiot and all the other hurtful things people are going to say because of that. Hopefully that will mollify the hurtful commenters on this sub who seem to think every one should know everything and never ask questions.
Now that's out of the way my question is, I've been given this presto canner and used it mainly for high acid things over the years so never needed the pressure part of it. I'm wondering if I'm missing any parts on the lid as when I attempted to pressurize it to can veg stock it just sputtered from two places on the lid and never built pressure at least according to the dial. The stock is in the freezer as I am aware it needs to be pressure canned as it's not a high acid thing. I would simply like to know if the lid is missing any parts. Thank you ahead of time.

You’re missing the regulator weight. It goes on the nipple sticking up. Super cheap.
If you haven’t already it’s cheap and wise to replace the gauge and seal as those are easy to replace and go bad.
Highly recommend buying a book with recipes and how-to guides. The ball complete book of home canning is a good start if you don’t have it already. Cheap and safe.

Having said that… we have the same canner and you’re missing the weight. It’s round and silver with a black cap. It sits on that pipe. Without it, it can’t gain pressure at all, unfortunately.
Seconding the regulator weight. They’re inexpensive to purchase from presto! Since this is an older canner I’d suggest also replacing the seal and the overpressure plug (these parts are also pretty cheap).
If you don’t have access to an extension office or somewhere else that can test the gauge on the canner lid it would be safest to get the 3 piece regulator weight for the canner instead of the single piece. That way you can just treat it as a weighted gauge canner and you don’t need the gauge to be accurate.
All of the common canners (Presto and All American) generally always have replacement parts because they’re expensive and people need to fix them occasionally to maintain the pressure calibration. A bit of careful online sleuthing for parts and the manual or a call in to Presto and some cleaning with a gentle metal polish like Barkeepers Friend followed by a test processing cycle with plain water and no payload should have you right as rain.
You are missing the jigger (weight that maintains pressure).
I like the adjustable ones where you can get 5/10/15psi.
