My hottest whole was a Habanero once – I consider myself a spice lover & have a good tolerance compared to my peers, but it absolutely wrecked me. It burned 3 times like hell, mouth, intestines and rear end, all in all it was quite intense. I don't think I'd do it again.
So my question for you hypertolerant/daredevilish people who ate a 1million+ pepper: how was it, what did you feel and most importantly: would you do it again/go higher?

7 Pot Bleeding Bubblegum Yellow are tasty 😋😋
Some burn more some less, I love super hots nom nom
Just “some” are not.. good.. eating raw 😅
Based on what people say about their reactions to eating one, I will never do it. Habenero is the hottest I’ll go. I don’t want an upset stomach for hours. I don’t need to prove that I can eat one.
I say this as someone that regularly eats super hots and hot sauce above the 2 million Scoville range: there’s no point in eating a super hots whole aside from saying you did it.
I’ve eaten many whole. I do it a couple times a year to test out new pepper variants I’m growing. Each time, the stomach pain makes it not worth it. I could just test the variants out by eating pieces, but I’m an idiot.
Habanero was my first whole fresh chili I ate. Way too hot for comfortably snacking.
Jalapeno was next and they were actually enjoyable. Still hot, but completely doable.
I did eat 2 entire Carolina Reapers in my life. On two seperate occasions, mind you. Pure regret both times. I didn’t think I was dying or panicking, but it was definitely unbearably hot, no idea what to do with my body. Light-headedness, kinda like a little high. It is relentless. Got worse for a while before it started easing off. I think I have now learned my lesson.
Was well into hot things, and habanero etc was easy. Tried a whole fresh Carolina Reaper pod to see how bad it could get. It was just a different level of heat altogether. Mouth was intensely burning, had to burp, the fire couldn’t be extinguished even after drinking olive oil or yogurt… about 30 mins in I threw up. Had the cold sweats and euphoric rush. Nothing could tame the heat. The cramps were just awful. Felt like shit for a good 90 mins at least. The next day my stomach was totally fucked.
Now I understand that 4x habanero doesn’t equal 1x reaper or whatever. You can whack as much Tabasco on a sausage, but it’ll never be as hot as an extreme variety. The concentration and lingering heat from a reaper was an unparalleled experience. Wasn’t enjoyable at all. I learned to use reapers in sauces or powders accordingly.
Ate a scorpion whole about 10 years ago. I wasn’t able to actually swallow it. By the time I had it chewed up coming out the other end was going to be a fate worse than death. I spit it out, and I leaned over the sink drooling and spitting, yelling why did I do this?! It was beyond the burn of anything I had ever experienced, I thought because I liked habaneros, and ate them whole pretty frequently, usually if I cook with them I’d buy an extra to eat while I cooked just for the burn. My mouth felt like it was blistering, felt like the entire inside of my mouth was covered in open sores and then ate something super spicy. It was flat out miserable. Every now and again when I can find em at farmers markets I’ll buy a super hot and cut it up into little pieces and take tiny bites just to remind my self that it’s a bad idea.
The first time? An hour of stomach cramps, asking myself why TF did I just do that to myself.
A buddy and I ate a reaper each a few years ago.
We agreed to chew for at least a minute, and then spit it in the garbage.
We were in it for the heat, not the explosive diarrhea.
Anyways he fucked that up and swallowed it, and within minutes he threw it up.
My sink has one of those hose taps, I pulled that out and ran cold water over my tongue for a half hour until the pain was finally manageable.
It was an awful fucking experience that I’d do again in a heartbeat.
I ate a whole habanero as a kid. I regretted it for hours. Face red, mouth pouring, eyes glued shut and pouring, ears ringing, nose pouring, and then the belly ache. And then the toilet troubles.
Well if you cook a reaper with something it’s manageable, the time I didn’t and chopped one up and ate it with something I was lying on the bedroom floor for about an hour with my stomach in agony.
Why would you do that?
I’ve been growing super hots for years and never ate a whole one or will I 🤨just saying
I’ve grown my own superhots to make hot sauce for the past 10+ years, usually around 200 peppers per season.
A pencil eraser size chunk of fresh Carolina Reaper pod is plenty for me – they’re a whole order of heat more than the hottest non-extract sauces. I don’t think I’d ever eat a whole one, just seems like a bad idea.
I grew my own ghost peppers one year and took a bite of it and it floored me like I had to get on the floor so I didn’t fall over
I’ve grown reapers, Armageddon and ghosts. Ate them raw but never a whole pod, like maybe a quarter at a time. Which is more than plenty to know that doing a whole pod in a bite isn’t worth the bragging rights nobody cares about. Of those, ghosts were more manageable, and Armageddons were in the ballpark of reapers. I ferment and make hot sauce out of them. Even fermented and nibbled on with a meal is a challenging but doable experience, and my preferred way to enjoy them.
Going from habanero to reaper is like the difference from a banana pepper to habanero. It’s a completely different level of pain.
I used to do it for fun. 6 to 7 minutes of pain followed by an endorphin rush that completely kills the pain and makes you feel great for a few hours.
Just eat a little food before you eat the pepper, and no drinking or eating anything until after the endorphins hit.
We’re entering marijuana naming and it’s incredible
Once. Just once I ate a Reaper straight from the farm in the Carolinas. The burst of sweetness was not worth the 30 minutes of hallucinations or the day of flaming shits.
The heat isn’t the part that sucks. Pretty easy to get sauces that are way hotter than even the hottest pepper.
The stomach pain is what sucks about it.
I only had habanero once. I could handle Thai chili no problem so I thought habanero would be ok. Wrong. It was pretty bad. I assume anything beyond that would feel similar just worse
ate a carolina reaper. Wasnt even that hot on the mouth. Intense stomach pains. Vomited up after awhile. Laid down in bed begging to fall asleep. Felt delirious and had light hallucinations. Wouldnt recommend lmao.
I’ve done a ghost pepper and it was as hot as advertised lol. In fairness I chased it by basically gargling a milkshake for an hour so my experience wasn’t as bad as some others.
When I was eighteen, I was dared to eat a whole pickled reaper. Most regret I ever felt because I was literally crying in the corner with a milk jug for hours after. The next day, the other end got to feel it too.
My reaction was to blow it out the back of me at pace some time later.
Lots of hiccups and drooling followed by bad stomach cramps.
I’ve eaten slivers of scoprions and had to disassociate from my body each time. Full pepper would be seeing god
Those Armageddon I’ve grew myself and fuck me they where hot
Maybe tmi but if you’re a top, make sure your partner didn’t get into any of these bad boys before…you know 😜
My pp was burning for hours even with condoum
Iv eaten a Carolina Reaper. The heat it pretty intense for about 10 minutes. Had a bit of an endorphin rush, head had some wub wub feelings going on. After that it wasn’t bad.
For me the hard part is the cramps. About an hour or so after eating I get gnarly stomach cramps and cold sweats.
