I’ve been plant-based for about 10 years now, and honestly the one thing I’ve never really found a satisfying substitute for is a good steak.

I tried the Beyond Meat steak fillets (you can order them through their “Labs” section on the Beyond website), and I was genuinely impressed.

We didn’t just throw them in a pan and hope for the best — to give them a fair shot, we paired them with a port wine reduction and vegan blue cheese crumbles, served with asparagus and smashed potatoes.

Flavor-wise, it was really good (as best as my memory serves), and the texture reminded me of an over-cooked steak — not perfect, but very recognizable. Think “well-done steak your father-in-law insists is perfect.” 😅

All that said, it was an awesome experience. Definitely not an everyday meal, but for holidays or special occasions, this feels like the closest I’ve personally come to recreating that steak dinner vibe.

Curious if anyone else here has tried the Labs fillets yet and what you thought.

I’m not sure that I understand the appeal.

    Whatever floats your boat.

I never liked steak even when I ate meat but it’s crazy how much the meat alternatives have developed in the last few years.

(checked your profile) it looks like you’re US-based. I am too, but I can’t find the Labs nor the Steak Filet on their website; checking “buy” brings up retailers.

    Mind dropping a link?

Out of curiosity, have you tried either Juicy Marbles or Chunk? Would love to know how it compares! FWIW I love juicy marbles but was disappointed by the Chunk I cooked at home (but it was great at a restaurant)

I’m surprised at how little people here eat.
