If you could only grab three, which would you get? Am so curious about tinned fish and would love some advice!

Great selection. I’m jealous, I have nothing like this near me. I’d get:

    – Patagonia lemon caper mackerel

    – Matiz sardines in olive oil with piri piri

    – Pinhas sardines in olive oil

Obviously, the $25 La Brujula tuna belly would be great, but I don’t think you want to spend that much on your first tin of fish

I personally stay away from oysters because they have an unpleasant pate like texture that I find off-putting when tinned/smoked. A good sardine or mackarel with chili is always nice. Tuna is good, but at the end of the day unless flavored/spiced, tastes like regular tuna. Look for squid or octopus in Galacian sauce for a blissful experience.

Stay in a price point you can afford to come back to on the regular. The $15 tins can be good, but you can find $4 ones that will knock your socks off.

Matiz and Patagonia are consistently good. Fishwife is all the rage but highly overpriced.

    Seems like a great selection.

I don’t think I have had any of those brands.

The prices seem a bit high to me so the cheapskate in me would be looking for cheaper options.

If I had to choose, I’d get some of the Patagonia tins because $4 seems like a good price for those.

Any tins from porthos and matiz r all legit

  5. Buy ALL of the on-sale Patagonia (screaming deal), then consider the matiz or one of the JG (Jacques Gonidec) — whichever sound interesting to you. The La Brujila are Cadillac items, but they’re priced for perfection and you’re just getting started.

Grab those patagonias on sale! You won’t regret those!

Skip anything in water. Start with olive oil with a flavor you enjoy. I like spicy or citrusy. Splurge to know what is good. My cheap fav is king Oscar jalapeño.

Cannot go wrong with Oritz, Nuri, or Matiz.

Oh my god where is this!? Incredible selection

The fishwife sardines with preserved lemon are pricey but very beginner friendly!

Pinhas daily driver. Patagonia is the best value for quality here. Don Bocarte if you feel like splurging, or at least skip Regalis entirely.
