ST. LOUIS — A pizzeria in the city of St. Louis will close next week.

Cafe Piazza, in the Benton Park neighborhood, is to close after its last day of service Monday, Dec. 29, according to a post on social media.

The restaurant opened in 2017 at 1900 Arsenal St., serving Italian food, including homemade pizzas, paninis and salads. It was co-owned by Vita LaFata III of Vito’s Sicilian Pizzeria & Ristorante and the former Vito’s chef, Tim Meinecke, who had previously owned a cafe at the Lake of the Ozarks.

In addition to its food, Cafe Piazza was known for pinball, an outdoor patio and a large mural across its ceiling depicting St. Louis history. The patio, and the restaurant, was intended to mimic plazas in Sicily, according to the restaurant’s website.

The announcement of the closure was made “with sadness,” the restaurant posted. The restaurant’s “finale” will be a bowl game watch party for University of Missouri football Saturday, Dec. 27, according to the post.
