Actually not that far away, I live in Austria and we also have something similar to a sandwich (tho I think I would be executed by society if I actually said it was one). It's white bread and some kind of plum jam (we call it Powidl), pan- fried in eggwash and then topped with powdered sugar. It's called Pofesen and is pretty sweet!
