School lunches in the 70s and 80s were actually not bad. In elementary school my favorite hot lunch was tacos! Crispy taco shell, seasoned ground beef, lettuce, cheese. Side of corn. And chocolate milk! Circa 1976-ish.

The book “Quantity Recipes for School Food Service” from 1988 has recipes for school lunches. (Google search: you’ll find it in Google Books).
In fact, I’d imagine that this post says 1988 and that the book is from 1988 is no coincidence.
I don’t remember ever having sausage pizza from school lunches from this time, but boy were the sloppy joes, cheese pizzas, and taco boats (especially!) delicious.

Ironically for people across the pond. Growing up in school in the early 2000s we didnt have this type of pizza. Instead our pizza came cooked in a plastic bag we had to unwrap to eat.
