Duckweed – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_405zhZkbY

It's an amazing video and thought provoking. As someone who absolutely enjoys soy, pea protein, etc, this is right up my alley but i haven't heard it discussed before.

I’ve seen it used as chicken feed. Unless you are in the tropics, getting it to grow fast will require some engineering. I tried it in some stock tanks and outdoors in a temperate climate, and without tinkering with water movement or heating, it was slow growing, probably slower than peas in terms of biomass. There are rack systems available for $1k plus for indoor growing, but you could experiment and make your own.

Definitely a neat idea. As an aquarium hobbyist, duckweed grows so fast and I am always having to throw it out. I know a lot of people dry it and feed it to their fish. I’ve definitely seen people talk about eating it themselves. I’d have to find some “clean” ones before I ate it myself as there are definitely microbiota in my aquarium that I don’t want to consume.
I think we do need to think about stuff like this for sustainable, healthy food sources.

It grows on the bayou here and it does grow *fast* I never even thought it could be something humans could consume
