Made dinner from scratch: 55% hydration 00 flour, served with a tomato / basil / mushroom sauce. Tastes so good but my 5 year old refuses to touch it and is having a massive meltdown because it does not look like spaghetti. Sigh.

Hi, looks wonderful. Kind of a newbie on the pasta front. When you say 55% hydration and making egg pasta, can you take a moment to explain? Are you saying the weight of the eggs in grams as a percentage of weight of the flour? No water I assume? Appreciate the time. Good luck with the little one.

  3. Kids are so freaking annoying. My nephew on Xmas day just passed threw a fit, ran to the bedroom, and wailed cried for 15 minutes because his mom pressed a YouTube thumbnail when he wanted to press it.

    Nice pasta tho 👍

Well, I guess you’re going hungry tonight. Sorry, kid.

I once made macaroni and cheese but used penne pasta and my nieces refused to try it because I didn’t use macaroni noodles lol

    Kids are really dumb

Leave a bowl on the table when hunger hit he/she will eat, I’m so lucky my 6 year old eat anything on the plate today beef bourguignon and and his tacos or burritos have to have onions and cilantro but the little crazy throw some tantrums that makes me question what would my mother do if that was me? 🤣 pasta looks amazing btw

Nice… nothing better than fresh Pappardelle.

Looks delicious! My kids wouldn’t eat it – they are so picky even though my husband and I expose them to everything possible. More food for me, I guess 😂

Miam miam, and it’s good learning for kids and parents too. Don’t like it, it’s ok you don’t have to eat it. I’ll save a portion in case you change your mind

No video of the meltdown? Haha

Side note: maybe include kid in process next time. Might be more open to tasting it if they help make it.

Think some of the comments here are going overboard with their sentiments about kids.

I love that OP put in massive effort to feed their kids something nurturing, healthier, that is as natural as can be. I know this generation’s all about nurturing and nourishing the body with less of the processed nonsense. Sometimes, however, you gotta just let kids be kids and give them what they want, **without overdoing** **it.** Just needed to put that out there before someone tries to weaponize and antagonize my statement.

Save the expensive, costlier stuff for yourself as a reward for putting in all that effort to cook yourself something nourishing. Gradually incorporate fancier/organic meals into your kids’ diet as they grow. If your kids didn’t grow up eating something nourishing that is made with the least processed stuff ever, peer pressure will eventually convince them such diet is worth a try. Especially when teens/young adults/adults are all about fitness these days.

That user saying “Sorry but r/KidsAreFuckingStupid ” isn’t being any kinder. It is OP’s kid, and they don’t get a say in saying stuff like that, even they meant well. Have some compassion. Kids are troublesome, they ruin your day, sometimes you get the urge to link the subreddit above, but it’s still someone else’s kid. Reserve that for your own frustration. Also, between having a meltdown that said pasta doesn’t resemble store-bought spaghetti, there have been worse cases of kids actually being dumb, like going to their dad’s room of collectibles totaling to a few hundred grand and destroying everything. But hey… people still choose to have kids.

Kudos for actually hand rolling out the sfoglia

Just needed to add some squid ink and viola.

  14. Never too late to throw it out and try again…

  15. Maybe it’s the width of the pasta? It indeed does not look like spaghetti. Pappardelle is what this one is. Maybe meet the kid halfway and make it tagliatelle. Kids can have a meltdown over the most little things. Can confirm, am autistic. I can still remember the day when i was a kid, when my mother bought a different brand of fish sticks lol

No reason to try and impress your kid..it’s for you

    This is my youngest.

My eldest would eat this and refuse to eat boxed pasta again. My youngest would have a level 5 meltdown bc like yours, it doesn’t look like regular pasta.

What an ungrateful little shit. Put the kid up for adoption
