I always get surprised how many calories are in cashews
This is 27g of cashews which is 162cal and 28g of dark chocolate which is 143cal. I like to snack on cashews throughout the day and just realized that several hundred of calories extra.

Me too. They are so calorie dense, only to be counted and savored.

Yeah they’re not worth eating if you’re on 1200 calories a day

Yeah, but they are a great source of healthy fats, and you have to get it in somehow. Fat is calorie dense regardless of source, so might as well try to get it through something healthy as opposed to stuff with a lot of saturated fat.

All nuts are super calorically dense. What surprises me is how little calories are in nut milks

So we know from studies that we don’t ‘absorb’ all the calories from nuts, perhaps up to 60%. (great news). However , the exact amount we do absorb differs between different people, different nuts and is nearly impossible for the average person to know or calculate (not so great news).

It’s so sad. I love nuts and I feel like the only ones left to me are almonds, which can never compare to pecans or cashews. 😭 However, those “cocoa dusted almonds” you can get are freaking amazing. There are lots of different brands, not just TJ’s. It’s like 19 of them for 150 cals or something.. I throw half a serving in a vanilla Greek yogurt and it’s 135 calories for a satisfying dessert with lots of protein.
I’ve been incorporating more nuts and nut butters into my diet due to the benefits I get from healthy fats. I’m fine measuring them out and fitting them into my daily cal budget. I don’t want to have the mindset of being terrified of nuts since it feels too close to disordered eating territory:(
