Been seeing and hearing about the magic for a while now, so when this 22" presented itself to me on the street for trash pickup, it was calling my name. This will be my first adventure into the charcoal game as an educated adult, so I'm looking forward to learning.
Here at the before and after pics.
What's the most cost effective upgrade I need to get started!?

It’s missing the bottom grate, the one where the charcoal sits on

A chimney starter, a cheap paint brush to push ash out, and a grill cover if left outside. don’t let all that good work be for naught. Happy smoking.
Simply Google weber kettle upgrades and all the other fancy stuff is sure to pop up.
Have fun with it, you will be amazed at how well the food will turn out.
I like my hinged grate. Makes it so you can fiddle with coals and not lift the whole grate off.
You definitely want a chimney. I would say to grab a set of charcoal baskets. After that you have the ability to cook anything you want.
Well, charcoal too obviously…
Honestly a cheap gasket for the lid helps seal in smoke and help keep up the temps. Like $8 on amazon.
Yes! I have had three that I found like that. Clean it up, maybe buy new grates and send it!
Highly recommend getting a meat probe if you’re looking to do low and slow. Preferably one that has multiple probes so you can keep an eye on grill and meat temps during the cook.
A chimney, wax cubes, and steaks
Welcome to your next addiction
The Slow and Sear is nice
Asking what stuff and how did you clean it? I got a used one from offer off, but have not started cleaning the grill. complete noob at grilling or having a grill here!
Congrats!
I think my best buy was a third party Stainless steal grill grate It’s a lot easier to clean and won’t have any rust problems.
I still keep the old grate in case I want to try to elevate a direct heat setup with bricks or something. Have yet to try that but it seems like a good idea.
Welcome aboard!
