Everybody has a go-to meal when they’re in need of something quick, easy and filling during the week, even celebrities. Daughter of chef Gordon Ramsay, Tilly, has shared what she rustles up when she’s in a rush during the week.

A staple for getting her through university, Tilly shared that her favourite midweek meal is a much-loved pasta dish: spaghetti bolognese. While the majority of her ingredients are familiar, she adds one surprising ingredient for a burst of flavour. Tilly wrote in the caption of her TikTok video: “This bolognese is a weeknight staple, full of vegetables, and it was my go-to recipe whilst at university!”

Tilly’s surprise ingredient is a tablespoon of Marmite, which she described as her “favourite”.

Marmite can add a salty, savoury, umami flavour, as well as a touch of tang, and deep, meaty richness to dishes. It can help act as a natural flavour enhancer, similar to a stock cube, for a whole range of soups, stews, gravies, sauces and even marinade recipes.

Tilly likes to top her spaghetti bolognese with a generous helping of cheddar cheese. She said: “This is packed full of veg, so delicious, and super easy to do.”

Tilly’s video has been viewed over 518,300 times, receiving 29,200 likes and 113 comments. Jessica commented: “This looks delish, I’ll be trying your recipe next time I make it.”

Bianca wrote: “Omg this looks AMAZING, someone told me only recently about the marmite, can’t wait to try.”

However, some people seemed divided by the addition of Marmite. One person said: “Not marmite….”

While Whiskey Fever wrote: “Marmite is banging. I add to loads of my dishes.”

Lor suggested: “Marmite is fantastic in gravy. A teaspoon’s worth is all you need.”

For your next comfort food meal this winter, this is how you can recreate Tilly’s cosy dish at home.
