I’ve been there. The panic sets in, all you have are tongs that are 6 inches too short, the hair on your knuckles (and possibly eyebrows) are burnt, and you only have about 1 minute until you ruin it.
He was successful at removing it, but he’ll never do that again like that.

Look into GrillGrates. I did my first prime rib and used em and no major flareups.

This is the reason I use grill gloves. Just grab that joker and set it on the plate, no fumbling around.
