Fairly new to tinned fish. I found a post where someone broke down their favorites at different p4ice points and tried to buy as many of those as i could. Trying to explore scallops/clams/mussels/octopus/calamari a bit more. Also open to new ideas for accoutrements. We mostly go with bread, peppers, butter, and chili crisp because that's what we've had at our local fish momonger.

i'd like to hear what people's favorites tins are (fangst trout is on the to purchase list) and what they like to eat with their tinned fish.

I love eating my tinned fish straight out the tin w a fork!

We talked about some of those in another thread but in addition to that – the Matiz cockles are great, really like those.

I mostly eat right out of the tin, unless there’s a great sauce then I go with over rice. For tins that end up kind of boring it’s nice to have some sauces around – dumpling sauce works well as does a lot of Trader Joe’s sauces – the yellow curry is really nice especially on mackerel.

Those Island Creek little neck clams are phenomenally good. Great in a pasta dish just some olive oil and bread crumbs. They’re very spicy but so plump and tender. I doubt anything from them is anything less than stellar.

The Wild Fish smoked coho is seriously amazing right out of the can as are the Patagonia Sardines and Beans is (or actually turned out onto a plate as directed)

The Trader Joe’s calamari is also really good mixed up in a little salad of olive oil, basil, and some hoagie spread

My favorite accompaniments with smoked fish are cream cheese on toasted bagel with some dill pickle relish or pickled onions. I recently started mixing this condiment to drizzle on plain (no other flavor but olive oil) sardines or mackerel: toasted sesame oil, rice wine vinegar and sweet chili sauce.

Out of these, I haven’t tried a ton. But the Miss Can Mackerel in curry and chili pepper is incredible.

Also, I do think Fishwife is a little overhyped, but that smoked salmon with chili crisp is FIRE.
