As the daughter of Lord Alistair McAlpine and his second wife Romilly, Skye McAlpine spent much of her youth in Venice – a city that remains close to her heart. The McAlpines also have a strong connection to Australia, given her father was instrumental in developing Broome’s Cable Beach Resort & Spa, where Skye spent part of her childhood. Now based in London with her husband and two young sons, Skye still frequents Venice, and has just released A Table in Venice: Recipes from My Home, (an extension of her popular blog, From My Dining Table). As the following extract shows, this beautifully presented book has the earthy flavour of an Elizabeth David cookbook with a sassy pinch of Delia Smith – finished with evocative photos of Venetian tables, canals and landscapes.
