Over 1.5 million bags of shredded cheese have been recalled due to possible contamination with metal fragments.The recall was initiated by Great Lakes Cheese Co. of Hiram, Ohio, and affects multiple brands sold at stores like Target, Aldi, and Walmart.The FDA has classified this as a “Class II” recall, meaning exposure may cause temporary or medically reversible health issues.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is asking consumers to check their cheese, as more than 1.5 million bags of shredded cheese have been recalled due to the possibility of contamination with metal fragments.
The Great Lakes Cheese Co. in Hiram, Ohio, initiated a recall of over 250,000 cases of its shredded cheese, each containing between four and 12 bags, on Oct. 3 due to possible metal contamination. The FDA upgraded it to a “Class II” recall on Dec. 1, meaning the “use of or exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
The cheese produced by Great Lakes Cheese Co. is sold in stores across the country, including Florida, such as Publix, Target, Aldi and Walmart.
If you do find the cheese, it should be thrown away or returned for a refund.
