Wife got me a Chud box for Christmas. Anyone have any tips and tricks? For general cooking how do you have your exhaust and front door setup?

I love the idea, but just way too damn expensive for a charcoal grill. Pleas change my mind!

Shoot cool to see someone get one of these!! Love his YouTube channel. Can’t wait to see what you cook!

  8. I want the charcoal starter. I’ve told my family. Still have not seen one at my front door. I’m too cheap to buy it for myself.

Congrats! I got my Chudbox last year at this time. It’s a blast to use. The setup varies depending on outside temp, wind, amount of lump charcoal etc. I’m in altitude as well. Follow Brad’s videos, as I suspect you’ve clearly been doing. That’s your baseline and go from there.

Hopefully, you got the grill basket as that’s a nice change of pace when needed but looks like you have other options too. I also snagged the rotisserie kit and griddle plates.

  11. Happy to see someone buy one. I investigated a purchase as well sometime last year but balked at the price. I get it’s a low volume product and shipping from Texas to NC is probably expensive on something that heavy but at the end of the day I just couldn’t justify it. Happy for you though. Love the CHUDs channel

I’ve had several different smokers and honestly believe you can not beat that atmosphere to cook in.

  14. Okay wow. I’m a diehard offset guy, my rig (Brinkman, also built in Texas) has 20 years of seasoning. But that is badass

  15. My advice is to take your time getting to know it. Don’t get frustrated as you learn how to ride the temp. Consider using the minimum amount of charcoal necessary to stabilize the heat and otherwise run it on oak, pecan, apple or cherry chunks.

  16. That’s a nice new toy and pretty good collection. I never had this style of cooker. We used to call them mailboxes. I think I’m the only person on earth that hates my Blackstone. 🤣

  17. Now make some chuds sausage! I have made multiple recipes of his and they’re all top notch!

  18. Got mine several months ago. It’s become my goto for a lot of cooking that doesn’t involve a sear. Have my kettle for that and an offset for the long cooks. The Chudbox is great with working from home as I can have plenty of time to get it going for a cook.

I usually have it at the first notch and open the chimney a third to a half. A chimney of charcoal goes about 2 hours, give or take. Also, if you don’t have it, get the rotisserie setup. Best damn chicken I’ve ever made. I have no idea how it was still tender and moist a couple days later reheated in a microwave.
