The festive season can be a stressful time of year. From parties and presents to stocking the house up with food and drinks to feed the whole family, many of us may feel like our December pay disappeared just as it entered into our bank accounts.
Well it seems that one mum was able to snap up some major savings this festive season, leaving her more than a bit chuffed when she left with her groceries from Tesco. Posting on social media platform Threads, Jayne shocked followers by sharing that she had saved over £400 at the supermarket.
Displaying a Tesco self-checkout machine after scanning her full Christmas shop, the first snap showed the total sitting at a whopping £354.45. This picture also revealed that Jayne had already cut £100.60 off her shop thanks to savings she found around the store.
However, many people became baffled upon seeing the second picture that showed the same till now only totalling £14.97. This was followed by a third snap of her trolley full to the brim with shopping bags. Including the initial saving – which put the shop at £445.05 – Jayne managed to save a massive £440.08, reports the Mirror.
Pleased with her huge shopping haul for a truly bargain price, Jayne explained how she managed to achieve such a tremendous reduction. She said: “The girls and I did the Christmas food shop tonight in Tesco’s, it was gone 9.30pm and the tills were still open. All fresh veg being put out, got everything we needed! Didn’t even queue, it was great.”
She then went on to add: “When I bought my new car from Thurlow Nunn this year I got £500 in Tesco Clubcard vouchers, £14.97 paid and still got £200 left, was well chuffed!!”
Tesco currently holds a Clubcard scheme for its customers which awards them for regularly shopping at their local Tesco store. Shoppers receive one point for every pound they spend in-store, with that one point valuing one pence.
Once shoppers build up enough points, these can be turned into vouchers to be used on in-store purchases or can save you some extra cash directly at the checkout.
Additionally, Tesco also works with partner companies which can allow shoppers to gain clubcard points and vouchers if they make a purchase with that company. In this case, Jayne says she managed to earn £500 worth of vouchers from buying a car from Thurlow Nunn.
However, while Jayne was beyond pleased with her savings, other social media users had mixed opinions on the Thread post.
One user was shocked, writing: “Good grief, and here I was chuffed with £40 vouchers.” While another person claimed: “This has got to be the best savings of 2025.”
Despite this amazement, other people were more stunned by how hefty the shopping bill had been initially before the vouchers and savings were applied. One person said: “It’s a shocking scene when one trolley full of shopping is £350+ (assuming no electronics are in there).”
With a fourth user commenting: “I’ve bought an absolute feast for five people and still didn’t even spend more than £160 lol.”
Many people debated over the price of their festive shopping, as one person claimed: “Goodness knows what she bought but I’m feeding 10 and absolutely not spent £350.”
On the flip side, a shopper replied: “That’s mental. We spent £500 across M&S and Tesco and that doesn’t even include the turkey.”
