And yes, that is a Dremel in the corner because yes, I did forget to account for the lid hooks, and yes, I do consider myself extremely lucky on the fitment…

10/10 totally worth it. If you want to do this yourself, which honestly produces an end product better than anything I found online (you’re either getting a laser cut sheet or a single piece cast plate with compromises), you’ll need to make sure the plate has a flat edge which matches the grates, and be prepared to do some massaging with an angle grinder to make it fit. Mine had tabs at each of the four corners, and being cast it required some flattening underneath to make the grates align.

Critical dimensions are obviously the lid hooks (which do work with this setup unlike some of the 3rd party options), but also the overall height of the grates, luckily there’s some tolerance there, but you need them to either sit flush with the lip or sit slightly recessed for everything to work.

Obviously need to season and try them out, but the lid hooks keep the plates locked in place when folded, and it adds a nice bit of weight to it, definitely alleviates the concern of it being bumped or blown away by the wind.
