One breakfast item was the star of the show

There’s nothing I love better than starting the day with a cooked breakfast. Visiting one of the city’s many great restaurants for a traditional fry-up isn’t a treat I get to enjoy often, so when the chance comes up I like to go all out. Thankfully, the city has lots of great places to try.
If you’re from Liverpool, you’ll remember the days of Clayton Square being home to brands such as Disney Shop, Oasis and Principles.
The second level had a café, toilets and an internet café – with more shops upstairs, including the first floors of Boots and Virgin. When it first opened, Clayton Square’s footfall was 7.8m, but through the years some shops, like many other shopping centres and areas, have been and gone.
Its makeover, which began in 2014, transformed the centre into a single trading mall, with the removal of escalators opening it up. Now, it is home to restaurant Wildwood.
Ahead of a shopping trip in Liverpool city centre, I decided to try the restaurant after walking past it dozens of times before. Wildwood Liverpool, which is next door to McDonald’s at Clayton Square Shopping Centre, serves up a delicious offering of authentic Italian cuisine including a variety of pizza, pasta, and grill dishes.
The restaurant also serves its breakfast menu which is served from 9am on weekends. The menu features eggs benedict, pizzettas, pancakes, waffles and full English breakfasts.
Using its own house coffee, Wildwood also offers a selection of coffees. There’s also breakfast cocktails and mocktails if you’re after something stronger.
Wildwood is found in Liverpool’s city centre beside McDonald’s near the bottom of Bold Street
I ordered the full English breakfast which comes with two eggs, which I had scrambled, a sausage patty, streaky bacon, mushrooms, potatoes, cherry tomatoes, a piece of toast and a side of spiced house beans. I also ordered a latte and orange juice to wash it all down.
It all looked very well presented with everything looking cooked just the way I like it, crispy bacon, golden potatoes and scrambled egg which looked done to perfection.
I was a bit apprehensive when I spotted the sausage patty. It looked more like something I could have purchased in the fast food chain next door to the restaurant. But after giving it a go it was nicer than it looked.
The potatoes were a nice addition, complementing each of the different parts of the breakfast. The eggs were lovely too and really flavoursome, given they were just eggs.

The star of the show was the spiced house beans. I didn’t know how well I’d enjoy swapping my go-to Heinz beans but they were really nice.
They had a tasty, spiced flavour, but nothing that would burn your mouth and were a welcomed swap to my much-loved brand. They worked well with all the different parts of the breakfast and were perfect for dipping in your toast.
All-in-all, the bill came to a total of £38.50. This included a full breakfast, scrambled egg on toast, two orange juices and two lattes. It was a nice treat if you’re looking to try something different from the meal deal breakfast.
