Ok, hear me out folks: Is this bbq? No. But where I’m from “bbq” and “grilling” are synonymous, and the the grilling sub won’t let me post yet. So enjoy some skewers with me.

  1. Anyone who is going to nitpick the difference between BBQing and grilling is kind of an asshole.  Yes they are different things but the majority of people use them interchangeabley.

Also the Aussies would call it BBQ.

  2. theFooMart

Most people would call cooking over fire BBQ. To them BBQ and grilling is the same thing.

If you want to be perfectly accurate, then BBQ is low and slow smoked meat. Brisket, ribs, etc. (This stuff is cooked. Not to be confused with cold smoking as a form of preserving meat.) Or Korean BBQ. What you have pictured is grilling. Also, using a Blackstone is neither BBQ nor grilling. It’s a griddle. They’re all similar, but they are different enough to have different names.

I wouldn’t consider that BBQ but I would consider act of cooking it to be bbqing lol …either way, the shishkabobs look good!

Cooking outside over charcoal or wood is bbq. End of discussion. Some people in certain areas of the world might not agree. But on an international scale this is fact.

  5. Call it what you will. They look absolutely delicious! Only regret, I wasn’t invited LOL

Meat cooked over a fire is barbecue

  7. I think it’s also a regional thing. I would perfectly happy if you invited me over for barbecue and served this.

Listen my friend, I just want to eat that food, you made fire, you stacked meats and veg and you invited me. I will tell everyone how great your bbq is and I’ll invite you to mine. Never met a bbq I didn’t love

    Soups on!

    I thought it was shishkebab?

Looks tasty though, you marinade the meat or anything too?

It differs, mostly based on location.

Barbecue can mean a party centered on foods cooked on a grill (ubiquitous)

It can mean the grill itself (I think this more commonwealth, not as common in the US)

It can mean the cooking method itself- whether that’s anything cooked on a grill, or just smoked, or over direct.

It can mean the entire cuisine centered around smoked meats, fixings, and sides (mostly southern US).

Personally, I prepare BBQ (the cuisine) by smoking it (method of cooking) on a grill (cooking device).

In your picture, I would say I grill kebabs, not bbq them.

Bbq is cooking over fire, predominantly using wood and/or charcoal. I won’t try to convince anyone that using gas as a fuel is not bbq, as that would be presumptuous and ignorant as I am not versed in all the worldy ways in which cooking is accomplished. There may be gas or electric methods elsewhere that would cause me to sell every one of my many outdoor cookers were I to experience such creations. Depending on where you are around the US, grilling has been referred to as cooking hot and fast over any kind of fuel, whereas bbq has meant cooking low and slow over a long period of time using wood and/or charcoal. Other regions will argue that using an outdoor grill is bbq regardless of how it is used. The argument is meaningless to me however, as I’ve had amazing food from both methods. What is a certainty though, is that some proteins need a low and slow method to be all that they can be, and you won’t get the same results at hot and fast temperatures. I know there are some that argue one can get the same results using a hot and fast method, but that is horseshit. Yeah, it might taste good, but to fully render collagens and break down connective tissues takes time.

Got a grill going with meat and or veggies on it? Than you’re BBQ’ing!

There’s different variations of BBQ’ing. One particular one isn’t right or wrong.

  15. tha_jay_jay

This would be called a BBQ where I am in the UK so fuck ‘em

  16. jeramycockson

Technically if you cook it on a bbq it’s bbq

  17. Late-Button-6559

BBQ is cooking outdoors, using outdoor-suited devices.

I accept that I’m the international authority on the matter.

    Thank you.

  18. My wife’s family in Wisconsin asked if I wanted “barbecue,” to which I excitedly responded “hell yeah!” They proceeded to make sloppy joes.

    Your pic is BBQ.
