FITCHBURG, Wis. — Nobody was hurt or displaced after a cooking fire at a Fitchburg apartment Friday afternoon.

The Fitchburg Fire Department was called to 5138 Anton Drive at around 3:11 p.m. for a reported structure fire. There was no visible smoke or flames when crews arrive, however a small fire was eventually found on a stove in one of the units.

A single sprinkler head had already put out the fire, meaning everybody in the 30-unit building was able to remain in their homes.

Fire department personnel said the incident was a reminder to be extra careful around grease fires. Never douse a grease fire with water. Instead, smother the fire with a lid or use a kitchen-rated fire extinguisher.
