Hey this is my first time growing beetroots so I’m not sure how you can tell if they are ready to pick I think I planted them about 2 months ago at end of spring it’s now summer here in nz thanks ☺️

    Yes, they look ready! A good indicator is their “shoulders” have emerged from the soil (the tops of the beets have popped out from the soil surface level).

    Beets can really be picked at any size. Your greens look very healthy so they’ll probably continue to grow if you wait.

    Pick beets and eat them at any age. Really just a matter of how big you want them. When they get really big tho they start to get woody and not as nice to eat.

    If you know the variety, you can look up what size is recommended for harvest.

    Also, don’t throw away the leafy tops. Saute them with bacon – delicious! Very nutritious, too.
