I just purchased it today as my first slow cooker ever. It was pretty cheap but I didn't need fancy programs. Upon taking it out of the box the outer warning component feels like a flimsy tin can. I'm making japanese curry stew and it's been one hour on High and the liquids in the pot are barely lukewarm. Should I return this? I've done so much research on various models of slowcooker and almost every model has negative reviews so idk what to buy.

Dumb question – does the outlet you’re using have a GFCI and is it tripped? I’ve accidentally hit the test button on my outlet just plugging mine in.
How full is it? If you fill it halfway with liquid it’s going to take a while to get hot. Keeping the lid on will help it heat up. Most slow cooker recipes take 6-8 hours so just give it time.
If you put your hand on the heating unit, on the outside obviously, is it getting warm? If so, you should be fine. It takes a while for the temperature of the food to warm up, especially if some of the ingredients came from the fridge.
The heating units really don’t have very much to them. They shouldn’t be flexing, though. So I am kind of wondering what you mean by flimsy. If you just mean there’s obviously no heft to it and it wouldn’t take too much effort to bend it if you pushed it against any solid object, that is par for the course.
I’ve never had a Hamilton Beach slow cooker, but I have had other products of theirs. They are a fairly well-known company, so if you do need to return it, you shouldn’t have a problem.
Yooo Shakopee mention
