Laperaux, The Journeyman’s Bistro, has closed permanently in Germantown, ending nearly three years in business.
The French bistro opened in February 2023 at 18056 Mateny Rd., in the Cloppers Mill shopping center. The space has seen several previous tenants over the years, including Gumbo Ya Ya, Dickie’s BBQ Pit, and Café Mileto, and sits in the same strip as the recently closed Shoppers Food Warehouse.
The closure comes just about a month shy of Laperaux’s three-year anniversary. Owner and chef Gregory Webb shared a heartfelt message announcing the decision to close and reflecting on the restaurant’s journey.
In his statement, Webb said Laperaux “has served its last meals at Clopper’s Mill,” calling the past three years “an exciting ride” filled with new friendships and community connections. He noted that with the new year, it was time to close the doors and look toward a new chapter, thanking everyone who supported the restaurant along the way.
Webb described Laperaux as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream of owning a family bistro, saying he would always remember it as the place where he watched his sons grow up in front of both him and the public. He highlighted the role his family played in the restaurant, sharing that his children learned to operate a full-service restaurant, manage staff, handle business systems, and care for guests, while also perfecting dishes like chocolate mousse.
As for what comes next, Webb said there is no set plan, but he and his family intend to continue supporting the community they connected with through Laperaux. He added that once things settle, they will chart a new path and see where it leads.
For those craving some of Laperaux’s signature dishes, including its Boeuf Bourguignon, Webb pointed diners to his newly published cookbook, Bistro Essentials, Old School Classics, now available on Amazon.
