Horsehair worms lay their eggs in water, where they get ingested by arthropods such as grasshoppers, crickets, and some spiders. The larva will then consume the host from the inside, completely filling it up. When the parasite is reaching its adult stage and ready to emerge, it can compel the host to seek out water, where the worm will burst out.
Unfortunately, sometimes the unfortunate host doesn’t make it to a body of water, instead becoming trapped in a box of gloves.

Not a chef, just worked in kitchens when I was younger and enjoy the posts. I am a nurse, though, and have gone through thousands and thousands of pairs of gloves over the years. Even through covid when we used half dry rotted gloves from some Chinese storage warehouse because they were so cheap have I never seen melted vinyl or nitril look like this.
