We have tried a number of Kirkland wines, and were impressed with a good number of them.

Unfortunately, the Margaux doesn’t hit the mark. Its defining characteristic is that it’s….thin. It’s thin on the palate in terms of both flavor and body. Bland. Boring. Bereft of any character whatsoever.

There’s noting off-putting here. It’s just a very hollow wine. Not much going on here. Maybe some sour cherry, some acid and tannin, and that’s pretty much it. The first word that came to mind when tasting it was “watery”.

Their Paulliac is better if you want a $20 Kirkland Bordeaux.

    Appreciate posts suggesting “steer clear”

I think you need to decant the crap out of it… triple decant over 2 hours…then you might find it highly enjoyable (hey, that’s what worked for me).

Do you think it will improve with time? My understanding is that this would be too early to drink right now, but I don’t have a lot of experience with Margaux wines yet

  4. Give it an hour minimum. I found it very enjoyable for the price

I thought it was fine for the price. It’s made by the Lurton’s who own a ton of Bordeaux, including second growth Brane-Cantenac.

It just feels weird when you for instance can get a Kirkland branded bottle of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru for 14.99.

Would def mess with my head

Not living in the US I actually had no idea. Going through the catalog and just getting a feeling similar to “Chinese piracy” of any products

I felt this was dark fruit oak and vanilla heavy with a bit of a thin finish. Sort of “California” esque.

Not bad. Decant an hour plus.

Man, I had the exact opposite experience between the Pauillac and Margaux. I’ve had a couple of the Pauillac and they were just very bland. The Margaux on the other hand had a lot of great aromatics, flavor, and acidity.

I wasn’t that negative about the Margaux, but def agree that the Paulliac is a better Kirkland Bordeaux. Now I’ve got to the the courage to try the much cheaper still Kirkland Bordeaux. At some point the race to the bottom price-wise seems to be misguided (for me at least).

We found it greatly improved with an hour and a half decant.
