as a kid, i liked nigiri but didn’t care about it that much and preferred other foods at japanese restaurants/grocery stores. then, at some point when i was 13-14, i suddenly became REPULSED by nigiri to the point of not even wanting anyone to eat it around me. it was always too “wet” and if i was served it at a restaurant with my parents i would quite literally squeeze it in my napkin until the fish was DRY. yeah, i know. anyways, i’m now 19 and on a whim decided to go to sugarfish with my boyfriend while he was in town because i knew it was super popular and it was pretty close to his hotel. i had been avoiding it since i moved to LA because it specializes in nigiri, but i decided to get over my fear since i remembered liking nigiri at a point in my life. we went, really liked the casual presentation and dark lighting, and then we went again the next day. it has been a week and now i am constantly craving nigiri. i just finished 2 packs from nijiya market and takeout from sugarfish has become a regular occurrence. i want to go to a high end nigiri restaurant to enjoy even more elaborate nigiri. i don’t know why the texture suddenly doesn’t bother me.

That looks really good and I always grave nigiri! Enjoy!
Many of us, too enjoy the taste of quality ingredients prepared well over the typical westernized makis. This looks phenomenal!
You just grew up! I did too! Let’s get nigiri!!
Fatty fish (especislly raw) contain coq10, omega-3 fatty acids, and lots of good nutrients and protein. Glutinous rice is a simple carb that provides quick energy for the body and is addicting. Soy sauce has an umami flavor (and other sauces contain MSG) which signifies to the body that it is eating something protein-rich and nutritious, which makes you crave it.
Because it’s a near perfectly balanced bit of food? Fat, protein, carbs, salt. Umami, salinity, sweetness, acid, exquisite mouthfeel. The only thing better to me is a perfect fresh hand roll with extra crisp nori.
Because you are a person of taste and culture.
Pergante.
Are you gregnant?
i crave salmon and tuna especially around my period, they’re full of great nutrients that my body just desperately needs sometimes. also hamburgers when i was iron deficient
Me too
You have a parasite and it yearns for sushi.
Nigiri is absolutely the best way to eat sushi, It’s the perfect ratio of fish and rice. Things like the sushi burrito spit in the face of perfection and are abomination that must be destroyed.
I was the same way now nigiri is all I want
Because it’s amazing! I physically have to restrain myself from going to Hama sushi every other day! Fish and rice is such a good combo!
Nigiri is the best. Seems like many places are just Americanized with nothing but rolls. I’ll stick to eating Salmon nigiri and be content.
You have become a bear.
Because done right. With a little real wasabi. A little good soy sauce. A good chef. What more do you want.
Sugarfish got me addicted too.
Insulin resistance. That stuff is wicked, as much as I love it.
That’s how my mom knew she was pregnant……
Because we all like raw foods
That’s one of the first things that happened to me when I turned gay, day and night all I was craving was nig….
Oh…. You said Nigiri….
Ozempic for my beetus, all I want to eat is sushi. Eggs are gross now, not ikura though.
Turning Japanese peehaps??
Sugarfish. Ik it when I see it
Same. And hand rolls. Just asked myself this question recently. Why sushi? I see it almost everyday, yet never treat myself to it. It’s always calling my name. Nigiri especially.
i miss this
Its funny because I started liking sushi with nigiri as a kid. Then went on to other things and stopped eating nigiri altogether because those are usually the priciest items on the menu (for the amount of food you get) where I go.
I’ve recently started having it again and I love it
