In many families, the tradition of Christmas Eve dinner has been going out to get something easy after cooking and preparing for Christmas Day. Some families, though, are looking for a fancier night out, going somewhere special for a nice meal before celebrating the holiday with their family and friends.
For those looking for a change and wanting to hit the town in Hartford County, we found five local restaurants with special menus sure to fit the bill.
Offerings range from Italian, French comfort food and more American cuisine. All of the following do request reservations so be sure to call early to get a table.
Cafe Aura
45 East Center St., Manchester
Cafe Aura is open for Christmas Eve dinner with their full menu and some holiday specials. Seatings are from 4 to 9 p.m. and reservations are required. Menu items include favorites such as Swordfish Livornese, Tuna Scottato, Veal Chop Milanese and The Aura Burger.
The Charles
161 Main St., Wethersfield
The Charles will be open on Christmas Eve for lunch featuring its Sunday menu. Favorite menu items include Shrimp Fra Diavolo, Shepherd’s Pie and Mushroom Gnocchi. Reservations are available online. Their dessert menu also features seasonal holiday specialties. They are also offering a Casino Royale New Year’s Eve the following week with a 4-course prix fixe menu.

Le Mazet
975 Farmington Ave., West Hartford
Join Le Mazet for Christmas Eve supper. Seatings are at 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. for a three-course dinner. Book reservations or order food to-go online. Favorites on their menu include Duck Cassoulet, Mushroom Bourguignon and Gingerbread Creme Brulee.
Millwright’s Restaurant and Tavern
77 West St., Simsbury
Millwright’s will be offering a Christmas Eve prix fixe menu with four courses. Menu items include Swordfish Schnitzel, Wester Ross Salmon, Prime NY Strip, Chocolate Hazelnut Cake and more. Make reservations online. Seatings are available from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Twigs Lounge
397 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury
Twigs Lounge can host you and your family for Christmas Eve dinner specials. Twigs will be open on Dec. 24 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. with their regular menu and specials. Call the Simsbury Inn for reservations. The menu includes Grilled Filet Mignon, Fisherman’s Pie, Loaded Chili and the Twigs Burger.
