As a dietitian following the Mediterranean diet, there are essentials I always get at Trader Joe’s.
I love snacking on Trader Joe’s freeze-dried blueberries and using its vegan creamy dill dressing.
I also get a great Paso Robles cabernet sauvignon and GT’s Synergy kombucha at the store.

If there’s one healthy habit I’ve consistently followed for years, it’s the Mediterranean diet. As a dietitian, I’m drawn to its flexibility, vibrant flavors, and nourishing benefits.

This diet focuses on antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, fiber-packed whole grains, healthy fats like olive oil, plus lean and plant-based proteins. Those who follow it also limit their consumption of added sugars, refined grains, saturated fats, and excess sodium.

Over time, I’ve perfected my Trader Joe’s shopping routine to make preparing Mediterranean-inspired snacks and meals a breeze, regardless of how hectic life gets.

Here are some of the staples I never leave Trader Joe’s without and keep stocked in my Mediterranean-inspired kitchen.

Trader Joe’s vegan creamy dill dressing is a versatile and flavorful fridge staple.

I love using Trader Joe’s vegan creamy dill dressing on sandwiches.

Finding a creamy dressing that tastes this good, doesn’t contain artificial preservatives, and uses wholesome ingredients like cauliflower and dill is a huge win.

I initially bought this for salads, but it has become one of the most versatile items in my fridge, thanks to its fresh, herby flavor that brightens up just about any dish.

I like mixing a spoonful of Trader Joe’s creamy dill dressing with a can of tuna and some chopped celery for a quick and light salad. It’s also fantastic as a condiment on sandwiches or as a dip for fresh vegetables.

Red wine is a Med-diet staple, and I love this cabernet sauvignon from Paso Robles.

True Myth wine

Yes, wine can be part of the Mediterranean lifestyle — it’s all about moderation.

Lauren Manaker

The Mediterranean diet encourages its followers to enjoy life’s pleasures, which can include having a glass of quality red wine with dinner a few times a week.

Red wine contains antioxidants, such as resveratrol, which some studies have linked to heart health benefits when consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

This particular True Myth cabernet sauvignon is a fantastic pick that I’ve regularly found at Trader Joe’s. It’s smooth and full-bodied, making it a perfect companion for a plant-based pasta dish or to simply sip while I’m cooking.

GT’s Synergy kombucha is my favorite probiotic-packed beverage.

Synergy kombucha

I think GT’s Synergy kombucha is a great alternative to sugary sodas.

Lauren Manaker

Though wine is an occasional treat, kombucha is my go-to beverage of choice — this fermented tea is brimming with probiotics.

I typically pick up GT’s Synergy kombucha at Trader Joe’s because I love its bright, tangy flavor. I find it to be a refreshing, fizzy alternative to soda.

GT’s Synergy line, in particular, contains live cultures in every bottle, which are often associated with gut-health benefits.

A healthy gut is a cornerstone of overall wellness, and the Mediterranean diet’s focus on fiber-rich foods provides the perfect fuel for these good bacteria.

Freeze-dried blueberries are my go-to antioxidant-packed snack.

Trader Joe’s freeze-dried blueberries are great in a trail mix.

Lauren Manaker

I always have a bag of Trader Joe’s freeze-dried blueberries in my pantry. They’re lightweight and shelf-stable, making them a convenient way to add more fruit to my diet.

Plus, the blueberries have an amazing concentrated flavor and a delightful crunch. I sprinkle them on my morning Greek yogurt, stir them into oatmeal, and add them to trail mix for a sweet kick.

Blueberries are antioxidant powerhouses, and the freeze-drying process preserves their nutrients beautifully without any added sugar.

As a bonus, each serving (which is the whole bag) contains 7 grams of fiber.

I can’t resist Trader Joe’s Mediterranean-inspired mixed nuts.

Nuts are a key part of the Mediterranean diet.

Lauren Manaker

Nuts are a core component of the Mediterranean diet, celebrated for their healthy fats, protein, and fiber.

This specific mix from Trader Joe’s — a combination of almonds, cashews, and pecans tossed with savory herbs and olive pieces — is my absolute favorite.

These nuts are perfect for staving off afternoon hunger, adding a satisfying crunch to a cheese board, or chopping up to sprinkle over a salad. There’s a little taste of the Mediterranean in every handful.
