Glorioso’s Italian Market reopened Wednesday after a fire in October damaged the building on Milwaukee’s Brady Street.Firefighters responded around 3:30 a.m. Oct. 3 to flames in an office space above the store. No one was inside at the time, and no injuries were reported.”I had to grab my Italian sausage because my freezer was empty and my body started to shake,” customer Sandy Dobrogowski said. The beloved neighborhood store, a staple on Brady Street, was forced to close temporarily in October after an electrical fire caused significant damage to the store’s second floor.Co-owner Carmine Presta said the restoration cost the family-owned business $4 million, with not all losses covered by insurance. “It was a long break, we were all working hard to get the store going again,” Presta said. The restoration included building a new IT room, break rooms, storage rooms, employee restrooms, and offices. “For us, my biggest goal with the restoration was we have to keep all these pictures, paintings, all the memorabilia,” Presta said. “Certainly the Prestas were working around the clock to put this thing back together,” Mike Glorioso said. “I had to get all my Glorioso inventory, too. I had to get olive oil, and cheese.” The fire destroyed all of the store’s food and products, so customers will find new inventory but the same Glorioso’s brand. “We were fearful it was going to change too much,” but was relieved to find, “It all looks the same,” customer Roger Dickson said. Glorioso’s reopening coincides with its 80th anniversary year.”Couldn’t be happier. It’s been a long three months,” Presta said.Top HeadlinesGrocery store serving Milwaukee food desert at risk of closingSuspect arrested after pregnant mother found dead in Milwaukee houseCar hits Milwaukee school crossing guard during morning drop-offWATCH Driver flies into Kwik Trip gas pumps during La Crosse police chase
