I’ve seen the American Wagyu brisket at Costco and the price is noticeably higher than Prime?
For those who’ve cooked it—did you actually notice a meaningful difference in flavor, tenderness, or juiciness?
Curious if it’s worth the premium or if Prime brisket gets you most of the way there.

I don’t know but I would love to have a taste. Lol
It makes gooood corned beef after a long cure
Hey man 6.49 for whole brisket is a deal where I’m at. No clue where you’re located but where I am we charge 12.99 for whole choice.
Where the F do you get these prices? A Wagyu brisket doesn’t even exist around my area, and choice is @$9/lb
I couldn’t tell a difference between that and prime. I’d save the 1.50 a pound
Worth it at this small price difference above choice and prime! Much more, no, but at $6.49…Yes…
It’s cheaper than prime by me so yeah. For taste, I’d never be able to tell them apart in a blind test.
Depends how you cook it. If you smoke it, you probably won’t notice much of a difference.
If you are making pastrami?? 100% yes!!
Corned beef? Probably.
Bbq brisket? Maybe
Anything else? Not really, but do it anyway.
I’ve cooked 2 of these from Costco. Because of the extra fat, i cooked them at a higher temp, 275.
It’s actually pretty good. There’s 3 wagyu bbq restaurants in my town and they all use American wagyu. I’d put it 1x normal BJ/Costco American beef. It still melts in your mouth and has strong beef flavors.
If it’s not literally A5 Japanese Wagyu then it’s not really Wagyu, not really, and is best to be treated like most any other nice cut or breed of Beef.
All other uses of the word “Wagyu” is blurring the lines and making it all silly to even worry about.
I bought one and it was 75% fat(not marbled but chunk). Buy one trimmed if they have it.
Korean shaved brisket
$6.5 fuck yah
Wagyu is just the breed of cattle as far as I know. Unless they do all the other stuff, like feeding them beer and fattening them up it’s just going to taste like any other beef. I’ve gotten it here in Ireland, on Irish raised animals
I personally think it’s a waste for brisket. I prefer a prime over wagyu on brisket the b wagyu is too rich when slow smoked in my opinion.
American Wagyu to me is just a great piece of marbled steak. If your looking for tender and juicy without needing much cooking technique, it may be worth it
For that price it’s 100% worth it. That’s cheaper than an angus brisket in a lot of places right now. It’s going to be fattier and richer in flavor, there’s a chance you might not like it but it’s worth a go
The subjectivity of this subject is subjective.
“American Wagyu” is quite meaningless. It’s deliberately not USDA graded, not 100% wagyu breed, but it is 100% marketing.
I’ve done many SVF wagyu briskets, and I prefer choice over them as they’re much less fatty.
Depends on how good the prime is that you typically get. American Wagyu is worth it for me, especially when it’s under $10/lb. The prime graded stuff that makes it to the North East is way to lean in the flat and dries out very easily.
I never go out of my way to pay a premium for brisket. I grew up learning that the whole idea of barbecue was to take the cheapest cut of meat off the animal and skillfully turn it into something wonderful. And if that one didn’t turn out the way you’d like… make another!
I miss the days of $.79/pound packer cuts at Walmart.
I’ve had this prime and choice and I will say the only thing I notice difference is that the Wagyu drops way more fat drippings so depending on the smoker it might ignite fires more
Ya its too rich for me. Brisket is rich enough already
I mean, hard to find choice at that price.
I’ve done a few Wagyu briskets now, including paying out my ass for a SRF Gold one just to say I did it.
IMO nothing can touch a $3.49-$3.99 Prime brisket from Costco.
