Actually, that’s the original tteokbokki. It’s called Royal Courts tteokbokki (궁중떢볶이). Spicy tteokbokki with chili peppers was made quite recently

yes absolutely, it’s called Gungjung teokbokki (궁중떡볶이, Royal Courts tteokbokki)! Original tteokbokki didn’t have gochujang in it. you can actually make so many variations of it like black bean paste, korean curry etc. you can check the origins and history of tteokbokki here: (https://hankki.ca/blog/the-story-of-tteokbokki)

  3. Teokbokki was originally non-spicy as it was eaten in the royal palaces. The current iteration of teokbokki that it’s spicy is not very old. Go for the old-fashioned style if you’re not great with spice.

What everyone else said about it being the original.

I want to add that I actually much prefer it. I think it’s tastier, though much harder to find. My grandma used to make it for me, and every time I eat it I think of her.

In Incheon Chinatown, you can find Jjajang talkbowkey.

  6. 기름떡볶이 is also very delicious. Goes very well with 막걸리

Yah definitely. Like others already said, the one in the picture looks like 궁중떡볶이 which isn’t spicy. 기름떡볶이, 짜장떡볶이 are not spicy either. And 로제 떡볶이 usually is less spicy. And regular red 떡볶이 can also be mild.

So it’s bulgolgi flavored? It needs to make you break a sweat, my mom makes it where even chili heads break a sweat but so good.

as long as the tteok is bokki I suppose it would be

edit: ahhh, I see, that’s what tteokbokki originally was, that’s cool😋

i prefer this og royalebbeoki over spicy, much more nuanced. Really bothers me when people incorrectly assume all kfood is spicy, and bc im korean, i should like spicy.

tteokbokki – Tteok is rice cake. bokki – means to fry or be fried or to cook, it’s an odd thang. but yes, it is legit.
