A local chain of upscale Italian steakhouses has closed its only South Shore restaurant after roughly a decade.

Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse at South Shore Plaza in Braintree is no longer in business after first opening in 2017, as first reported by Boston Restaurant Talk on Monday.

A sign posted in the front window of the restaurant indicated that it had closed after “10 wonderful years,” The Patriot Ledger reported on Tuesday. The sign also noted that the lease for the Braintree location had come to an end.

Additionally, a comment from a former employee on a post in the Weymouth Foodies Facebook indicated that Davio’s owner Steve DiFillippo decided not to renew the restaurant’s lease.

“The rent in that mall is far too high for the lack of guests that come in,” they wrote. “I worked in the Seaport, all workers were offered jobs at other locations. They do take care of us as employees and I’m sure this was a tough decision he made.”

A call placed to the restaurant on Thursday determined that the phone number had been disconnected.

Davio’s Italian Steakhouse is known for offering both premium cuts and handmade pastas in elegant settings with an open kitchen and extensive wine list.

Davio’s other locations in Massachusetts are still open, including at Park Square in Boston, the Seaport District, Logan Airport, Chestnut Hill, Foxborough and Lynnfield. The chain also has locations in Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The address for the now-closed Davio’s is 250 Granite St., Braintree.
