Yukimi Donburi is a casual Japanese comfort food spot that has just opened on Queen St West near Spadina (former Midori Ramen space). I’ve eaten here three times already in the last 2 weeks. As their name indicates they specialize in rice bowls ($16 to $20). They also have udon and lots of appetizers ($6 to $10). So far I’ve had tonkatsu curry and gyudon dishes and enjoyed them.
Last night I had unagi don ($20) that came with tamagoyaki. Not bad. Especially considering that it’s half the price of nearby Yuzuki Fish Market. Also had an order of takoyaki ($7) that was tasty.
Overall it’s a great addition to the neighbourhood. It sits somewhere between Manpuku and Tokyo Kitchen in terms of quality and value for similar Japanese dishes. In addition to the food it’s the service at Yukimi that has impressed the most. Super friendly and attentive.
