DMV diners can look forward to enjoying the flavors of Southern Italy, thanks to the newest innovation from a local hospitality group. Balos Restaurant Group’s Sorella Trattoria and Bar will be serving up the tastes of the Amalfi Coast later this year, reports local media outlet PoPville.

Signage advertising the eatery is up and creating excitement in Sorella’s upcoming 1800 M Street home. Vapiano previously occupied the space, but closed its doors in 2021, making Sorella’s arrival cause for even more excitement. While DC foodies will need to exercise some patience, there is an end in sight; the restaurant is set to open this fall.

Sorella will be bringing an upscale Italian dining experience to the 9,247 square foot storefront, which will be able to accommodate 200 guests.

Balos Restaurant Group is the brain-child of hospitality vets Stefanos Vouvoudakis, Tom Tsiplakos, and Joe Ragonese. The trio have launched the acclaimed Balos Estiatorio, The Angie, and Bar Angie.

Sorella is sure to continue Balos Restaurant Group’s winning streak. Vovoudakis previously explained to the Washington Business Journal that the concept will be bringing sophistication and authenticity to the District, saying: “We hail from Manhasset, New York, so we really wanted to bring that Cipollini’s vibe to D.C. Our executive chef has deep roots in Italy, so the menu he is designing is sure to be exquisite.”
