AIKEN — A restaurant specializing in cuisine from a region that includes Southern Europe and North Africa is getting ready to open in Aiken Towne Park.

PITA Mediterranean Street Food will be located next to Sky Nails on Julep Way, according to City of Aiken paperwork displayed on a window at the site.

The eatery will be part of a Georgia-based chain that has more than 40 locations in the Peach State, Alabama, Florida and South Carolina.

PITA Street Food restaurants use high-quality ingredients such as “Lebanese extra virgin olive oil, certified Halal meats, fresh local vegetables and authentic imported spices,” according to pitastreetfood.com.

Among the menu options are Pita Meals, Street Pitas and Bowls. Diners also can order falafel, spanakopita, hummus and more.

In other Aiken Towne Park news, Huey Magoo’s, which features chicken tenders on its menu, is preparing to open and there is an “opening soon” banner hanging at the location of Melty, which will offer a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches.

Both restaurants also are on Julep Way.

Goodbye Dollar General

A Dollar General store at 1110 Richland Ave. E. is conducting a store closing sale.

According to signs, buyers were receiving 15% off the prices of the items they purchased, except for “tobacco/alcohol,” as of Jan. 8.

All sales are final.

The Dollar General chain of discount stores has more than 20,000 retail outlets in 48 states, according to dollargeneral.com.

Eleven Dollar General stores with Aiken addresses are listed on the website.

Heading downtown

Dos Potrillos is “coming soon” to a brick-and-mortar location in downtown at 119 Laurens Street N.W., according to a banner on display at the food truck’s site on Whiskey Road between Discount Tire and Mavis Tires & Brakes.
