Im no baker and so purchased a cake from my wife’s favourite bakery, and whilst I’m sure this will taste amazing, it looks awful. I have a great personalised cake topper from a friend who does wood etching, but what would be my best bet to spruce this up without making it worse??

Dried (edible) flowers, rose petals and/or herbs along the border/side of cake could be nice

  2. Sprinkles? Or like, than fancy kind of sprinkles that are small balls of various sizes? You can pick colours she likes.

Edible or fresh flowers. Make sure to cover the end of the stems if you use fresh. Fruit. Some fruit can look very elegant and you can do a colour theme like all red.

If it’s a chocolate cake it wouldn’t be too hard to crush some Oreos and press the crumbs into the side, then put a few Oreos for garnish around the top.

If Oreos don’t match the flavor, you can garnish with other foods, like chocolate covered strawberries or other berries would work.

Sprinkles would be cute but it’s not always so easy to get them to stick to the sides if you haven’t done it before

Please please anyone who wants to put flowers into their food: always make sure the flowers you put are considered edible or food grade from a farmer’s market or grocery store or at the very least from a seller who knows 100% it’s organic/no chemical sprays.

I feel like people here (everywhere on social media really) are putting flowers into their cakes without thought about how some flowers can be toxic themselves or they contain unknown sprayed substances.

30th anniversary gift is pearls. Use edible rose petals with edible pearls as dew drops.

What candies does she like that would mess with the flavor?

  8. Edible glitter? You could dust some over it. Decorate the top with nuts, chopped candies, or fruits depending on what flavor the cake is.

Strawberries , slice them up to the top but not completely through so they’re still attached and strawberry shaped. Fan them out slightly around the inside boarder then dip some in chocolate add colorful colored sugar on top of chocolate. Chill few min. put on cake so it’s flat use chocolate or frosting and make string to make balloons 🎈

Some long black satin ribbons placed around the outer sides of the top trim. Six would be a nice number. Make sure they’re cut so the ends just touch the board.

Have you spoken to the bakery? They should be more than willing to make things right

Strawberries slice them from bottom to top but not completely through so there’s still strawberry shaped and connected and found them out slightly and place them around the inside border of the cake. Take strawberries, dipped them in chocolate, put colored sugar or sprinkles on them. Chill for a few minutes and put on the cake flat use chocolate or frosting to make strings so they look like balloons🎈

Sprinkles all along the top rim or all along the sides

Fruit! Easy way to spruce up a cake without too much trouble. If you want to be a little fancier, you could dip some strawberries in chocolate. Or, alternatively, get a bunch of little chocolates she might like. (Example: Ferraro Rocher (sp?), mini chocolate bars.) I’ll try to add some inspiration photos in a second.

If you’re willing to spend money, some food-safe flowers would look adorable and they don’t require any actual skill. All you need to do is trim the stem and wrap it in cling wrap. Fake flowers are another option!

Something more affordable would be sprinkles. You can use the rainbow kind or otherwise, buy a bottle of themed sprinkles to make it a tad more personal.

If none of these options work for you and you’ve got some leftover ribbon from Christmas lying around, search up cake bows and tie a few of those to put around the edges!

Use candy to decorate. Malt balls, kit kats, candy bars, sprinkles for color, etc.

You NEED a piped border connecting the cake to the cake board. I would go to the grocery store and ask to buy a piping bag full of white icing and add a star piping tips the pipe dollops around the base.

You could remove the text entirely by carefully scooping/scraping that section in and covering any divots with icing and cover the whole top in crushed nuts or chocolate shavings or pie filling and add the topper.

If you keep the letters you could add patted dry maraschino cherries and use either a piping tip and strawberry buttercream to add more frosting frills to the top/base for a coquette style.

You could also cover the top with fruit glazed in apricot preserves and set it in the fridge. ( adding chopped nuts to the sides is optional)

If you want a dead simple option- googly eye sprinkles pressed in on the sides and top.

Cut out a circle of wax paper and place it gently on top of the cold cake covering the text in a decorative shape. Pulverize freeze dried raspberry and sieve over the top of the cake then remove the wax paper.

Throw some colorful sprinkles on the border

Cherries would look cute along the border!

You could get some edible spray paint in her favorite color and paint any part of it

  21. Add big sugar paste roses and real or fake leaves. Can just use mint leaves beneath the roses. I’d go either white and light pink roses to match the rest.
