A YouTube food reviewer sampled a ‘free’ steak at a French eatery and found himself “blown away” by what he discovered.
Well-known social media personality Gary Hanna, who shares content on the GaryEats channel, made his way to Bordelaise in Surbiton, south-west London, following a tip-off from a follower who mentioned the restaurant offers a deal featuring a ‘free’ steak.
The actual offer is buy one get one free on steaks, provided both cuts ordered are identical.
Gary was swift to note that the flambé steak costs just £21, working out at £10.50 per person if the promotion is used to purchase two. However, the YouTuber has somewhat pricier preferences and opted for the 250g ribeye at £37, cooked medium rare, which he observes is the “standard price in most restaurants”.
The dish arrived with chips and a side salad, whilst he requested a bordelaise sauce to accompany his steak. Gary was utterly impressed by the calibre of the cuisine served, reports the Express.

He said: “What a cracking little place. It is incredibly busy. I can’t get my head around that. Buy one get one free on steaks.
“Let’s try this. Yes, that’s incredible. It’s so tender. I’m absolutely astounded. That sauce is incredibly good. I can honestly say hand on heart, that to me is truly wonderful.
“Fries, tasty. A nice crunch to them. I think they’re industrial fries, I don’t think they’re made in house.
“Buy one get one free is a bargain. Nothing short of a bargain.”
Gary continued by mentioning that the restaurant has sister branches in neighbouring Ewell and Tooting. The food critic expressed his desire to visit those locations to determine whether they match the quality of the Surbiton venue.
He confessed that he enjoyed “every single aspect” of his visit, from the open-plan kitchen to the attentive service.
Gary said: “I’ve got to try the other restaurants as I’ve been absolutely blown away.

“Absolutely wonderful recommendation. Surbiton are incredibly lucky because every time I’ve been to a restaurant I’ve been really impressed. Do you what that tells me? Competition is very tough.
“The ribeye was prefect. The bordelaise sauce was one of the best I’ve had with steak for a very long time.
“Why do I always go for a ribeye? Why? I’ll tell you why. I think the ribeye has the most flavour. The marbling, if it’s a nice piece of ribeye, the marbling and the fat then renders into the steak and makes it really juicy.”
Gary, who began with duck rillette and finished with crème brûlée for pudding, awarded the restaurant a perfect ten out of ten score. He also commended the wine selection and, unsurprisingly, the value for money.
