I am considering another egg to go along with my large for more of an everyday/weeknight grill, as it’s just me and the wife. But unsure if the MiniMax or the small is the way to go… any thoughts? Pro? Cons? Anyone have experience with both? Appreciate the help!

I bought a Joe Jr for smaller cooks and it’s about the same size as the Mininax. I can get it RIPPING hot really fast for searing.

Grate size on the small and MM is roughly the same so the main difference is how much charcoal you can put in the firebox.

they have the same cooking space. minimax is just the portable option

For what you’ve mentioned the Minimax is the way to go, you can do those midweek cooks with enough room. It’s simply a grill space thing.

I see the small as a searing station, bringing something off your large for a quick sear before serving, which of course you could still do on the Minimax.

I was in the exact position as you. I went with the Minimax and love it. I did try to smoke some sausage on it and it ran out of charcoal on me. Doesn’t have much capacity but perfect for grilling or a quick smoke then sear. Plus you can transport it but it’s pretty heavy.

I love MM it is still portable (carrying with two persons). I take it with me on vacation, we put it in a Kia Picanto. A mini too small for my take, but you can take it with you at the beach xD

The portability feature is a great selling point for the MiniMax. I’ve taken it on vacation. The cooking surface is the same at 133 square inches.

The advantage of the small vs. mini max would be temperature control.

You can still control temp on the mini max, but the additional interior space of the small egg increases the airflow balance and makes it easier. Also….more ceramic to heat up which also adds to stability for long cooks.

For grilling….mini-max is perfect if the size is appealing.

I have both and the minimax is more versatile if I want to take it with me but the small is great as a searing station if I have another egg set up for indirect as it uses up nothing regarding lump.

I have a minimax and loveeeeee it. It is my first egg tho so not sure if my opinion is the best opinion. Id say an added bonus for MM vs small is it is portable if you camp, take weekend road trips, want to cook at a family members or friends etc which I have done and it is awesome. It is 90 lbs or so so you can move it on your own if you have to but with two it is super easy to transport
