Cheapest ive found Fox Farms soil. Do you guys recommend it or should I start buying something else?
$14/bag for Ocean Forest and Happy Frog. My local hardware store charges $42/bag so I thought it was a good price. What do yall think?

I can vouch for the Frog! I paid $20/bag last year. Locally owned garden store.

I buy the cheap potting mix and fertilize my plants weekly

Good stuff. I find my plants like their coco loco mix the best

I wish I could find it anywhere up in Canada.

Fox farm all the way.

Fox Farm isn’t a bad product, but it’s expensive. I definitely recommend learning how to make your own mixes. Coco coir + earthworm castings + compost + perlite. Or coco coir + earth worm castings + dry fertilizer + perlite. Makes a lot more , will end up costing you half as much. You also get the luxury of deciding how to balance your NPK ratios, how potent to make it, and if you want it be water only, or fertilize as you go.
Glad you found it at a decent price, but down the line, take that $86 and learn how to build your own mix. It’s really not difficult and there are tons of easy to follow recipes all over YouTube. Check out some cannabis growing videos, too. The direct parallels between pepper growing and cannabis growing can not be overstated. I learned how to grow my best peppers by learning how to grow cannabis first 🙂

Coco, worm castings for starting or growing any peppers indoors is the best method I’ve found. If you want to keep them indoors until they are big or producing pods then I add organic fertilizer like Gaia Green. It’s expensive but works very good

It’s really good for containers and I love it in my Earth box. Great wicking and drainage. Nutrients run out in a few weeks with fast growing plants but I like to amend with Craftblend and mineral mixes.

Did you t threaten them with a gun to get that so cheap? Fox Farm is the best.

Even fox farms as turned to bagging rocks and sticks 👎

While, yes, fox farm is nice, it’s expensive cause of the green tax, I’ve recently found out. It’s gotten popular because of those who grow Marijuana.
I find so long as your soil isn’t miracle grow, it’s good. I’d also check and make sure with other soils too that it has perlite in it, and not styrofoam.

I have a decent source for cheap compost so I make Mel’s mix and replenish compost and a bit of fertilizer every year.

Pro Mix.
I will never buy any other soil again. (I prefer the white bricks, both are great)

I love fox farm! That’s a great deal. I like lots of drainage so for potted plants I stretch it out with a little sand, vermiculite, and chick grit.

I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve been buying Fox Farm- both Happy Frog and Ocean- for $28.97 for two bags from Walmart (i don’t like using big corporate entities) And they deliver it for free.

Seems to always come with soil gnats.

$12 in a hydroponic & grow supply store 5 minutes from my house. The big bags too not the smaller ones. Always stock. LA area, won’t say store name because I don’t wanna fk up my spot for myself.

Great deal. I like the Happy Frog 🐸 Soil it is a bigger bag. I have been using it for 2 seasons now. You will see the difference when you open the bag.

Wow apparently Fox Farms is cheap in my area. Except the Strawberry fields that’s very expensive. Same bags are $19.99, though I think they went to 20.99 recently, at my local feed store.
Fetus_Transplant
Omg those prices are wild but then again I’m just converting it to local price and that’s probably better I assume.
in here there’s a decent Seed starter soil around 1$. Per kilo
There’s even 2$ for an entire sack of rice
theegreenman
I’d want to know what it is made of.
Many bagged soils are mostly compost and forest products which degrade rapidly and become sludge here in S Florida. YMMV. I have switched to Coir and Hydrafiber/peat as it takes much longer to break down and compact.

That’s a great price. My only complaint about happy frog is that it tends to go hydrophobic when it dries out.

Ocean Forest was a substantial upgrade for my seedlings after 4 years of Miracle Grow crap. The most amount of survivers (72 seeds, 60 germinated, 52 from cells to first transplant vs losing 70-80% of 72 seeds previous years) and the plants were much stronger than years prior. It holds moisture really well and didn’t end up with a layer of mold or algae on top like the MG did when I could finally manage to get it damp.
camacho1919
I always buy the happy frog potting soil, but I only ever see the smaller bags, and they’re usually 10 bucks.
I’ve never seen the strawberry fields before. I also use their liquid fertilizers, they’re really good!
