This homemade simit is perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Made with simple ingredients, this traditional-style simit is perfect for breakfast, tea time, or as a delicious snack. Give it a try and enjoy the amazing aroma and taste!
Ingredients:
• 1 tsp active dry yeast
• 1 tbsp sugar
• 1 cup warm milk
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp salt
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 2½–3 cups flour
• Sesame seeds
• 1/2 cup date syrup or maple syrup
• 1/2 cup water
Instructions:
1. Mix the yeast, sugar, and warm milk together and let it rest for 10 minutes.
2. After 10 minutes, add the egg and mix well.
3. Gradually add the flour along with the salt and baking powder and knead until you get a soft, smooth dough.
4. Cover and let the dough rest for 2 hours.
5. After resting, divide and shape the dough as shown in the video, then form rings.
6. Dip each simit into the syrup mixture and then coat with sesame seeds.
7. Bake at 300°F (150°C) for 25 minutes.
8. For extra color, turn on the top heat for the last 2 minutes.
