Notini’s Italian Restaurant specializes in pizza, pasta, po-boys and muffalettas, created with its made-from-scratch tomato sauce and white sauce.

Notini’s — which first opened in 1981 — is a casual and family-friendly place, with a nostalgic feel with its wood paneling, leather booths and red-and-white checked tablecloths. At Notini’s, you order at the counter, take a number and select your own seat in the large main dining room or the smaller room off to the side.

I couldn’t pass up the signature drink: mint-spiced tea. When they served it to my table, I was pleasantly surprised to see it came in a 16-ounce schooner glass garnished with lemon and orange slices.

I ordered an 8-inch Susan’s Special, which is a veggie pizza with tomato, onion, green bell peppers, black olives and mushrooms. It was hot and delicious, with a thin crust and generous toppings, and I was pleased that the red sauce was not sweet. Pizzas come in 8-, 10-, and 13-inch and there’s a 6-inch child’s cheese pizza available.

I had heard about the pizzas — which I would order again — and I plan to return to try one of the pasta dishes soon. Pasta dishes include lasagna, chicken fettuccine Alfredo, spaghetti and meatballs, veal Parmesan, ravioli and more.
