They’ll be sprinkled on a homemade chocolate buttercream frosting. I worry the colors could run. Thank you!

Of course. Those sprinkles (and the cake) will not go rancid overnight. I’d suggest you keep the cake out of the fridge though. Helps it taste better.

Just sprinkle it last minute if in doubt? You probably won’t be hand-laying these particular sprinkles, it should be pretty fast

The dampness of the fridge might cause a little colour run from the sprinkles. I’m not familiar with this brand of sprinkles.

If its on a chocolate frosting you have no worries about the colors of the sprinkles running, fridge or no fridge. I also think its very hard to get sprinkles to stick if you haven’t just freshly iced the cake. Good luck!

Yes the cheaper brands can run.
But I would still do it – take the risk.

I’d just sprinkle on not long before serving. It’ll only be a quick task. The colour is likely to run on the buttercream overnight

Moisture will make the colors run. If I were you , I would not sprinkles on and then refrigerate.

Be careful! I did the same thing a couple months ago and it looked fine immediately after taking it out of the fridge but after an hour the colors all melted and it looked muddy

  9. I would wait, not because I think they would run but bc I think the consistency of the sprinkles will be different.

Depends on if your frosting crusts. If it does you’ll need to put on before it sets and if it doesn’t there might be too much moisture with it being in the fridge.

  11. Your butter cream will set BUTTER HARD in the fridge. The sprinkles won’t stick if you sprinkle them after.
Your frosting is chocolate; even if the color leeches out, you won’t see it really.

As long as you’re not planning on absolutely coating it in sprinkles it should be fine.

But also don’t put it in the fridge at all. There’s no need. Leave it on your counter. It will be delicious.

I’ve refrigerated these overnight on a strawberry ermine frosting and had no issues with colors running or anything. Should be fine!

  13. This is the brand I use and I’ve never had that issue. They also work great in the batter! I started buying them because Sally’s baking addiction said they didn’t bleed.

  14. JohnFkennedysWife

I’ve done this brand a few years ago and it was fine

Generally this shape of sprinkles are fine. It’s nonpareils that bleed.

Don’t put the cake in the fridge. Cover it and leave it on the counter. It will taste better.

I’ve used these before on American butter cream and Italian meringue buttercream cakes with no issues.

Can you scoop a bit of icing in a bowl, pour a few sprinkles on top and leave it in the fridge for a few hours and see if they run?

  19. LadyMageCOH

It should be fine. I worked in a bakery where we had a cake that was literally coated in those things, and the bleeding even after multiple days in the cooler was minimal. I will also echo what another poster said in that buttercream does crust after a while, so it’s best to put them on when the icing is fresh.

They should be fine. Nonpareils are the ones that color bleed badly. Jimmies aka rainbow sprinkles should be fine.

  21. I’d usually add sprinkles last. They won’t be ruined. Just add more in the am

Honestly I just have a bunch of random sprinkles so I’m not sure if I’ve ever used these specific ones. But I’ve never had a problem with the colors running in the fridge! They have ran if I put them on hot cookies or something but never had a problem with them running in the cold
